A Shangri-La Event Center wedding offers something distinctly different from the red-rock landscapes most people associate with Southern Utah. Located in Toquerville, Utah, this outdoor wedding venue is surrounded by ponds, mature trees, green lawns, bridges, and a white gazebo beside the water.
The property was previously known as Lichfield Ponds, and many local couples may still recognize it by that name. Today, it is called Shangri-La Event Center, but the ponds and landscaped grounds that made the venue recognizable remain at the heart of the property.
This fall wedding made beautiful use of the entire venue. The couple held their ceremony beside the pond, explored the grounds for portraits, celebrated on the outdoor deck, and finished the night with dancing and a sparkler exit.
A Pondside Wedding Ceremony at Shangri-La Event Center
The outdoor ceremony took place beside the venue’s white gazebo, with the pond surrounding the ceremony area and mature trees rising behind it.
The natural setting gave the ceremony a peaceful and intimate atmosphere. Instead of needing extensive decorations, the couple could rely on the water, greenery, gazebo, and changing fall leaves to frame the celebration.
The bride wore a flowing white wedding gown with a lace bodice, while the groom wore a blue suit with a deep red tie. Burgundy bridesmaid dresses and a bouquet filled with eucalyptus, soft pink flowers, and deeper red accents worked beautifully with the autumn setting.
One of the advantages of a Shangri-La Event Center wedding is that the ceremony location already has a clear focal point. The gazebo anchors the space, while the pond and trees create depth around the couple.
Fall Wedding Portraits Beside the Pond
After the ceremony, we walked around the property for wedding portraits.
Some of the strongest photographs were created beneath the enormous trees beside the pond. The yellow leaves formed a natural canopy above the bride and groom, while the water reflected the trees and soft evening light.
This part of the venue works especially well for wide photographs that show the scale of the landscape. It also provides enough shade and open space for closer portraits without needing to leave the property.
We photographed the couple beside the pond, beneath the trees, near the gazebo, along the shoreline, and while walking through the grass. Having several portrait locations close together gave us plenty of variety without pulling the bride and groom away from their guests for too long.
A Green Southern Utah Wedding Venue
Southern Utah is known for desert landscapes, sandstone cliffs, and dramatic red-rock scenery. Shangri-La Event Center provides a completely different visual experience.
The ponds, flowing water, large trees, and green lawns make the property feel like a private garden tucked into the Toquerville landscape. That contrast can be especially appealing to couples who love Southern Utah but want a softer and more traditional outdoor wedding setting.
The venue currently describes itself as a private outdoor event venue surrounded by green trees and flowing water. It also continues to acknowledge its former name, Lichfield Ponds.
Bride and Groom Portrait Locations
There are several useful locations for wedding photographs throughout the property.
The pond and shoreline
The edge of the pond creates an open background with reflections, trees, and soft natural light. It works well for both full-length portraits and closer photographs of the couple.
The large mature trees
The trees are one of the most distinctive parts of the venue. During the fall, the yellow leaves add color and frame the couple naturally.
The white gazebo
The gazebo is useful for ceremony photographs and portraits. Its white structure stands out against the green trees and water without overpowering the couple.
The bridges and walking areas
The bridges and paths provide movement and variety, especially for photographs of the couple walking together.
The outdoor reception deck
The deck overlooks the water and becomes especially photogenic after sunset when the overhead string lights are visible.
An Outdoor Wedding Reception Under the Lights
The reception continued on the outdoor deck beside the pond.
As daylight faded, strings of warm lights gave the space a relaxed and intimate feeling. The bride and groom cut their wedding cake near the water before sharing their first dance on the deck.
The evening continued with parent dances and an energetic open dance floor. Guests could move easily between the deck, lawn, and surrounding outdoor areas while still feeling connected to the reception.
The deck is one of the features that makes Shangri-La work well as an all-in-one wedding venue. The ceremony, portraits, dinner, and dancing can all happen within the same property.
A Sparkler Exit Beside the Pond
At the end of the reception, family and friends gathered outside for a sparkler exit.
The bride and groom walked through the group and stopped for a kiss beneath the string lights. The surrounding darkness made the sparklers stand out, while the venue lights provided enough atmosphere to keep the photographs connected to the rest of the reception.
It was a fun finish to a wedding day filled with natural scenery, laughter, and time spent outdoors.

Shangri-La Event Center is worth considering for couples who want an outdoor wedding venue near St. George and Zion without making the desert landscape the primary focus.
The property may be a particularly good fit for couples looking for:

Couples should confirm current capacity, inclusions, pricing, and restrictions directly with the venue because those details can change.
When Is the Best Time for Wedding Photos?
The final part of the afternoon is generally the strongest time for portraits around the pond.
At this wedding, the lower sun filtered through the trees and created soft light across the lawn and water. The venue also offered several shaded locations that worked well before the sun became low enough for the wider landscape photographs.
For a wedding timeline, I would plan couple portraits around the pond during the final hour or two before sunset. Exact timing will depend on the wedding date, ceremony schedule, tree coverage, and where the sun falls across the property.
It is also worth leaving a few minutes after sunset for photographs beneath the reception lights.
Planning a Shangri-La Event Center Wedding
Because most of the venue is outdoors, couples should think carefully about the season, temperature, sunset time, and evening weather.
A few practical considerations include:
- Planning the ceremony when the gazebo and guests will have flattering light
- Allowing enough portrait time before sunset
- Preparing for changing temperatures after dark
- Confirming the venue’s current music and event-ending requirements
- Asking about rain or severe-weather plans
- Checking which tables, chairs, lighting, and coordination services are currently included
- Confirming rules for caterers, alcohol, candles, sparklers, and other exit items
